bub.my migration
Hi Guys,
Its been some time since last update, I am very sorry for all the hassle of “system down” you might been expiriencing.
What happening ?let me put this into summary ..
1) Bought a machine from dell
2) Machine came with DOA system board
3) Since most parts is redundant, we only subscribe for NBD service so the system board replacement only happen on the next day
4) Place the machine into the rack, install & configure ESX
5) Struggle several time to Install Linux which i’m not use with & customize to our needs.
6) Having problem when TMnet dint add our IP block into the allowed list for their DNS (yeah nowadays you cant simply use their DNS servers)
7) Install Cpanel, WHM, Sitebuilder, Fantastico .. blablabla
Take time to figure out how the easy Apache works
9) Did a mistake by encrypting Apache (this caused us a massive resource issue)
10) Fixed the resource issue, forgotten about adding the site builder custom httpd.conf entry
11) Migration from Singapore to Malaysia is hell crazy with the resource issue problem (yeah .. who can tell, dual Intel Xeon having resource issue, the service is eating up our disk spindle)
12) Now is what you see, machine runs fine, but during the problem, we’ve ordered new parts, this is not cheap, DeLL split the features of their raid card, so we’ve ordered new RAID5, another 4 piece of 1TB hard drive, so we can have 3 spindle serving the services at all time, drive failure is not an issue for us. (this is what happen if your core is storage
hahah, data integrity is very important)
13) Next system maintenance will be around next week, the same day, I would need to migrate another server which running RAN game server.
14) Replacing RAID card with different RAID type is just same like you are replacing your hard drive.
15) Backup & restore will cost us lots of pizza, coke, cigarette, time & precious time with family.
16) Latest problem would be issue with excessive resource that we have, to use all 3 spindle, we need to put enough amount of data for the next spindle’s block to start spinning, windows you might want to write & delete several big amount of data so it can move to the next block, but not Linux(this explain why Linux & UNIX does not have a disk fragment utility.
17) We will extend the services into several domain but still invoices managed by 1 company.
18) Another server of ours now is under Ebby’s bed, with 1 of 2 Direct Admin license attached to it, see what we can do with it, we might publish a very cheap web hosting but we will surely state that the service for this particular machine is at the best effort due to the lack of redundant feature of it.
19) Sangap.com & versionx.org is yet to be move, for who are using those two domain, I’m very sorry, Cpanel does have issue for backing up data more than 500mb, it will cramp the whole server, so next migration we will have 3 spindle so 500 divided by 3 sounds like a good number to transfer all the data in. Not that we cant, just we don’t want to sacrifice the paid users resources for the free users sake.
20) We will be offering Virtual Private Server & Server co-location in different domain, as for now bub.com.my is a good candidate.
Let’s just wait, sorry again, but please do understand that me myself does not want the downtime to be that much, you guys with your own blog, us here with paid customer hogging on our back is not a very good situation to be.
Thanks !
